How often would we meet?
I recommend meeting weekly for a minimum of 8 sessions to begin with. After this period, provided we both agree, you are welcome to move to fortnightly sessions depending on our availability. Counselling works best with regular appointments to ensure we build a strong working relationship and ideally this would continue for longer than 8 weeks, though this isn’t always possible.
Where is your office?
My office is located near the Waterfront in Ipswich. I also work online from my home office.
How does payment work?
I accept payment by bank transfer 24 hours in advance of each session.
My standard fee is £65 per 50 minute session. I also offer a limited discount for anyone who might struggle to afford this. Please contact me for more details.
How will I know if our sessions are working?
We would establish a clear goal to begin with in order for us to understand where our focus is, but also for you to measure progress and get a sense of whether counselling is being helpful. You are welcome to have more than one goal which you can amend at any point.
It is important to recognise that progress isn’t linear or predicable. Some people experience results quickly, and others take longer.
Do I need to talk about my childhood?
Only if you want to! I do encourage you to bring your early history to our sessions but you are under no obligation to talk about any subject which you would find too distressing or unhelpful.
Can I talk about politics?
We live in a political world, and many of the symptoms we experience in terms of our mental health are shaped by the political environment.
As such, I welcome you to bring political themes to our sessions and talk about how they have impacted you. Do please note this would be from an exploratory perspective rather than a debate and I would never seek to influence, deter or criticise you in any way.
Can I ask you personal questions during our sessions?
Yes, I am happy for you to ask me any questions you may have about my personal background. I may not answer all of them, and I might ask why a particular question is important to you so I can understand the benefit to you.
Do you have any testimonials?
Due to the ethical code of my regulatory body, UKCP, I am prohibited from collecting and publishing previous clients’ feedback for very good reason.
Counselling is an individual experience and each client forms a very different relationship with me. It would be misleading for me to present feedback from my previous clients as a means of persuasion.
What I can say, is that I hope every person who has ended their sessions with me, leaves with a deeper understanding and appreciation of who they are.
You can find the full UKCP Code of Ethics and Professional Practice here.
